Hikma is looking for new board members!

Because some of Hikma’s current board members are leaving Leiden University, Hikma is looking for three to five new board members starting as soon as possible. We are looking for a mix of bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students with an academic interest in Middle Eastern and Islamic studies. Candidates may be from all faculties at Leiden
University (including the The Hague campus).

We are especially looking for:

  • At least one Dutch-speaking candidate
  • A candidate who is able to design professionally looking posters and flyers and/or work on our website
  • One or two candidates who are able to introduce new students of Middle Eastern studies during the El Cid week (Wednesday 17 August 2016)

Apart from that, we are looking for everyone who wants to organize academic, cultural and social events for students and staff at Leiden University. Having a network among artists, academics and professionals in The Netherlands and beyond who have a link with the Middle East will be of use, but is by no means a prerequisite. Board membership can also be an opportunity to widen your network.

Hikma is a Leiden-based association for the study of the Middle East and Islam. The association focuses on the organization of academic and cultural events. Since its foundation in 2011, Hikma has established a wide network of contacts, including a Facebook group with over 1700 members. Apart from being the study association for the Middle Eastern Studies programme at Leiden University, it aims at being an academic association for the complete community at Leiden University interested in the Middle East and Islam.

Are you interested in joining our team or do you have questions? Please send us an email before 7 August 2016: board@hikmaleiden.nl or contact us on Facebook!
